Online Class
Suggested Materials List

You are welcome to use any drawing tools and paper you like. That said, for those interested, here is a listing of the gear that I will be using ...

Pencils

  • Staedtler 1.3mm Mechanical Pencil Silver Series, OR Staedtler 1.3mm Graphite 760 Mechanical Pencil. Although the size is not common, it's perfect for drawing. Make sure you also buy 1.3mm refills (I prefer 2B or similar softness).

  • Pilot Dr. Grip 0.9mm Mechanical Pencil. This pencil has a smaller, more precise point. The barrel has a silicone grip so it's comfy in the hand. Make sure you also buy 0.9mm refills (I prefer 2B or similar softness).

Erasers

  • General's Kneaded Rubber Eraser (or any other brand).

  • Tombow Mono Zero Elastomer Eraser with round tip. This is a great eraser for drawing in small, light lines. Get the refills too.

  • Sakura SumoGrip EE300 Battery-Operated Eraser. This is the perfect tool for adding white highlights in a drawing. If you can't find the Sakura brand, choose another brand, but first read the online reviews. What you're looking for is power. Pay the extra money and get a good brand. Get the refills too.

Pens

  • Felt tip pens: Pigma Micron in sizes 01, 03, 05. I prefer black ink.

  • Ballpoint pens: no preference on brand or color. I use whatever I can find around me that has a medium tip (not too fine or not too wide). These pens are great for sketching on napkins (which I will demonstrate during class).

  • Other kinds of pens: some people like to use fountain pens or other types of fancier pens. If you have these kinds of pens, feel free to use them during class. But they are NOT REQUIRED.

Sketchbook

  • Strathmore Series 400 Drawing Pad, 24 sheets in 9” x 12” size, spiral bound, or

  • Strathmore Series 400 Recycled Drawing Pad, 24 sheets in 9” x 12” size, spiral bound

  • The regular 400 series paper has a warm off-white color. The recycled series paper has a brighter white color. Both are excellent quality. The wire binding allows you to flip the sheets over, making it easier to hold the pad while drawing.

Napkins

I enjoy sketching on napkins with a ballpoint pen. I will demonstrate how during class. Have a few napkins handy if you’d like to follow along.

Where to Buy

These items can be found at your local art supply store, or online art supplier such as Jackson’s Art, Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff, Blick, or Amazon.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I’ll see you online for class.

Thank you!
