Getting the Essence

Sometimes, less is more. In this online class we’ll explore the power of brevity in art through quick, expressive sketching.

The focus is not on creating finished pieces, but on developing the ability to observe, respond, and express in real time.

This class is designed to help you move beyond perfectionism and tap into the poetic essence of a subject. Each exercise will challenge you to think on your feet, encouraging you to sketch with intention and without hesitation. By limiting ourselves to five minutes per sketch, you’ll learn to focus on what truly matters – free from overthinking or overworking the drawing – resulting in sketches that are bold, raw, and full of life.
